For yet another night this week, drones have been spotted over Denmark above places where they shouldn’t be. This time there are also reports of drones above a Danish air force base. Germany has reported mysterious drone activity as well, and Norway saw similar sightings earlier in the week.
None of the drones are known to have been shot down so far. That raises the question: are the authorities able to bring them down — and which European anti-drone systems could they call on? Checkpoint Europa lines up five options.
Blighter (AUDS)
Blighter supplies systems that first spot a drone with radar and cameras, then try to disrupt its control link or GPS using targeted radio signals so the aircraft lands or fails. It’s a complete kit — detect, identify, and attempt to stop — and works best against drones that are still connected to a pilot.
Rohde & Schwarz (GUARDION / ARDRONIS)
Rohde & Schwarz specialises in radio signal work: their kit can find a drone’s transmitter, pinpoint its location and block just that specific link. That means less interference with other equipment and a more precise way to take a drone out of action.
Leonardo (Falcon Shield)
Leonardo sells large, scalable packages combining radar, cameras and electronic countermeasures. The parts work together — radar picks up a target, cameras confirm what it is, and electronic tools try to jam or mislead the drone’s navigation — suitable for airports, bases or other large sites.
Thales (EagleShield)
Thales builds modular systems that combine detection, decision-making and several countermeasures — from jammers to the control of interceptor drones. Their approach stresses multiple steps: detect, assess and then deliver a proportionate response, usually designed to comply with civilian and military rules.
HENSOLDT (ASUL / Elysion-style suites)
HENSOLDT provides sensor-driven solutions featuring radar and cameras plus electronic countermeasures. Their systems aim to quickly see what’s flying and then neutralise it in different ways — from signal disruption to integration with other defence elements.
